Welcome to the play therapy room at The Family Enhancement Centre!
The room is designed to help children learn through play and expressive techniques. It combines elements of play therapy, art and sand therapy and brings imagination and creative expression into counselling.
Play therapy room designed to help children heal through imagination
Play therapy is a therapeutic intervention where a qualified counsellor uses different kinds of techniques and activities to engage children in therapy through role-playing and games. It is a specialized area of practice and a way to with young individuals who are unable to verbalize their feelings.
Colorful toys and games to help children express their thoughts through play
There are different forms of play therapy. In child-centred play therapy, the counsellor observes as the child is allowed to choose from an array of toys and play whichever way he or she likes. In sand tray play therapy, which is gaining more popularity these days, the child may use figurines to develop scenes in the sand. In filial play therapy, the parents get involved and the therapist guides the parents how to interact with the children through play—thus closing any communication gap that may have existed.

Our child counsellors and play therapists use art and expressive techniques to help children cope with domestic violence, sexual abuse, parent’s divorce, the death of a loved one, trauma, among other emotional issues.
